Pressure-Treated Wood
Pressure-treated wood is the lower upfront cost option, and it's a solid choice if you don't mind staining or sealing it every couple of years to keep it looking good and protected from Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles. Skip that maintenance and you'll see graying, splintering, and warping sooner than you'd like.
Composite Decking
Composite decking costs more upfront, but there's no staining, no sealing, and no sanding down splinters. It holds its color for years and shrugs off moisture, which matters when you're dealing with our snowy winters and humid summers. Most composite products also carry 25-to-50-year warranties.
